The Mayflower Compact by Elizabeth Raum
I believe this notion comes from our history. First, by exploring these lands to breakaway and be able to have religious freedom from the Church of England. In other words, their hope was to escape the religious persecution they were facing in their countries. The one thing they did not want to do was to establish a church like the Church of England. The colonists wanted a chance to worship freely and have an opportunity to choose which religion they wanted to take part in. God was a major role in America's upbringing. If you read the "Mayflower Compact" you will see what was wrote as they arrived here.

Second, they didn't want to be taxed by The British government. Between 1754 and 1763, Britain was at war with France. Great Britain not only bore the whole cost of protecting the colonies against French forces, but also provided for the soldiers. After the war, Parliament discovered it was going broke, and decided that the colonists ought to contribute something to the cost of their defense. The legislative body in the British Government, laid a small tax on Americans. Every legal document, along with newspapers, pamphlets, etc., had to be affixed with a certain stamp. The stamp costs a few pennies.

The American colonies went berserk. The colonists took up arms. During the war, the aims of the colonists changed. The Americans turned out to be particularly good at political organization. As soon as troubles with Parliament began, each colony sent representatives to form a Congress, in order to decide how to deal with the problem. This Congress evolved into the first general government representing British North America. It was known as the Continental Congress.

After 1776 the Americans fought to establish themselves as an independent nation. We fought to create our government now people fight to destroy it. It started over a stamp, so we created our own stamp for our self. Now somehow the American people think Humvee's are gonna start showing up at their doors trying to capture them and enslave them. I would love to know how many of our service men would say they have been some how trained or brainwashed into killing Americans. Our government, elected by us for us, have a duty.
We fought to create our self governing state. The only way to ensure that Americans stay free, is to support our government. And what I mean by that is most Americans, if you really look around, only want to live in our over abundance of luxuries but lack the principles of our electoral process. Most do not even vote. Gun legislation or our government, in my opinion, is by far what is killing America.
